Ioanna & Michalis
For the military wedding of Ioanna and Michalis, we took the ferry from Kavala to Lemnos. A beautiful island that rewards you in every corner. The couple had arranged a small party a day earlier, for the established bed custom with dancing, singing and treats. Ioanna's friends made sure to follow the tradition to the letter, with Michalis stopping by at regular intervals for the check-up. The next day everyone was ready for the big celebration, friends and relatives of the couple from all over Greece had arrived. Michali's preparation was definitely not a typical groom's preparation! "Mitsos" and his friends made sure that Michalis would remember this day forever. The recipe was a bucket of soapy water, a mop and whatever tools you have handy. Michalis left himself to the whims of his friends and enjoyed it as much as anything else. On the other side, Ioanna in a quieter environment had started preparing with her makeup and hairdo as her friends started to arrive. The best man traditionally brought the bride's heels at home and gave money to wear them to Ioanna. The wedding took place in Saint Nicholas which is located on a small hill next to the port of Myrina and the view was really beautiful as you have the whole port on your plate. Michael's colleagues had lined up right and left on the steps of the church with their swords raised, creating a corridor for the bride to pass. The joy and emotion of Ioanna and Michalis while climbing the stairs was evident on their faces and this was also reflected in the images of the ceremony. As the couple exited, the instruments started playing! The orders given to Michalis by his colleagues were expected and he certainly wouldn't get away with it so easily. He successfully carried out every order he received and in the end was rewarded with a sack of rice for the "good"! The reception that followed took place at the Sabbia beach bar in Platy, where the dance floor was set on fire by the heels and moccasins. The dances lasted until the morning, with happiness dominating the atmosphere and joy being inexhaustible on everyone's faces.
